Daft Punk - Get Lucky (Practice Music Video)

Evaluation
When making this video, as a class, we decided to work closely to the actual 'Daft Punk - Get Lucky' official music video. Therefore we used similar shots when filming the video, however during the editing stage, we stitched the shots together in a different order. This meant that we took full advantage of the shots we had and the lip syncing done by the main singer was the best that it could have been. When filming, we were fairly organised when concerning mise-en-scene; each band member knew the costume and individuals used props either provided by themselves, other class mates, or the school (for example the drum kit lent to us by the music department.) Also, we took an active approach when making the decision to use the main hall as our setting, as we booked out the space during the periods of which we were filming in order to ensure that we were productive in the time that we had. Each member of the class had a role designated to them at the start of the planning stage (for example director, cameraman, band member etc.) so that, as a class, we were working at 100% capacity.
However, we were unorganised when it came to planning. We created a storyboard, however we did not create a plan of what we were to do in each one hour period of filming. This meant that, instead of going straight to the filming at the start of the hour, we were wasting time discussing what we were going to film. We acted upon this during the last periods of filming once we identified this problem, and we began to plan our next hour of filming time at the end of the present filming period. Another problem that we encountered during editing was the difficulty of finding shots where you could see the main singer actually lip syncing. This lip syncing was not practiced and the main singer did not know the words to the song fully before we started filming - this has helped me realised the importance of planning and not just to rush into the stages of shooting, as the video suffered as a result and we lost footage. Finally, the lighting was a problem when shooting our video, and this is evident in the final edit. The lighting was not the same throughout the different sessions of filming and so it varies within the video, instead of being consistent throughout, making it look unprofessional. We identified this problem and booked a technician to direct the lighting during the final stages of filming, however this was not done throughout the whole filming stage and so the lighting does still change throughout the video.
Overall, I think that we worked effectively as a class and have produced a first music video to a good standard in little time.
